Situated in the beautiful Towy Valley, Gelli Aur consists of 60 acres of wooded parkland. At its centre lies a mansion complete with battlemented portico and crow stepped gables. This building is not open to the public, but provides a romantic and impressive centrepoint to the surrounding Country Park.

A fantastic place to go for a walk or a picnic, Gelli Aur is translated into English as ‘Golden Grove.’ Throughout the year visitors can get involved in guided walks and craft demonstrations as well as a full programme of events.

20 of Gelli Aur’s 60 acres are taken up by a deer park. Once occupying 400 acres, the deer park is still home to two types of fallow deer and is a wonderful place to take the kids.

If you want to see something breathtaking then the Arboretum is ideal. Planted in the 1860s, the Arboretum consists of 10 acres of matured shrubs and trees such as Monterey Pine, Fan-Leaved Beech and Giant Redwood. It is quite a sight to behold, especially in May when the Azaleas and Rhododendrons are in full and splendid bloom.

The footpaths and nature trails will lead you on quite the adventure through woodland, ponds, parkland and meadow. This promises to be thrilling whatever the season. In the summer keep your eyes peeled in the meadows for the 5 different orchid species growing there. Why not try and see how many butterfly species you can spot? And don’t miss the birds in winter; you may even see a goldcrest.

Gelli Aur Country Park really is a haven for flora and fauna and is a wonderful place to go to immerse yourself in the outdoors.
