The West Somerset Railway is a must-do for any railway enthusiast. The railway houses the longest standard gauge heritage railway in Britain.

You can enjoy 20 miles of scenic touring through the Somerset countryside and along the coastline. Recapture the romantic era of steam rail travel, from the picturesque stations with vintage trunks to the noise, steam, and excitement of the steam trains!

There are diesel trains as well for a quicker journey, if you’re anxious to enjoy the Somerset countryside.

The staff are all dressed in traditional uniforms, so it feels like you’ve really stepped back in time. Ask questions about the train and history; you’ll be amazed at what you will learn. You can even step up on the footplate with the driver before your journey begins!

Admire the vivid wildflowers that bloom along the way and bring a blaze of colour to the peaceful vistas. Indulge yourself in the dining car with lunch or high tea.

When you reach the end of your journey in Minehead, why not hop off and have a day out at the beach? Relax on the sandy beach to enjoy the crashing waves. If you’re in Dunster, take a hike up to Dunster Castle to get another taste of history. Stop in Crowcombe Heathfield for a cycle on Somerset’s country lanes. Or, as you enjoy your tour, alight at all of the stops along the way to enjoy the idyllic Somerset countryside!
