The Donkey Sanctuary is a truly special place. Home to nearly 500 donkeys,
the sanctuary takes in abused, unwanted and miss-treated donkeys. It has seen more than 11,000 donkeys and mules come through its doors in the UK and Ireland alone. With programs in Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, and Mexico, the Donkey Sanctuary is truly a haven for neglected donkeys and mules.

The sanctuary provides everything a donkey could ever need, from research into tropical diseases to mobile clinics to nutrition advice. It may mean the difference between life and death for the donkey’s families across the world, where donkeys and mules are a lifeline for people and their family. Donkeys help with water and wood collection, land cultivation, in addition to transporting goods to market. A donkey can be the change in an entire family’s welfare.

Visit the main sanctuary in Devon for a day you will never forget. Get to know each donkey’s personality and tale and learn how they have come to the Donkey Sanctuary. Many love being patted and stroked; you can spend as much time as you like with them. They love being spoiled and fussed over!

Walk through the extensive grounds to see the donkeys when they are grazing and enjoy the countryside. You can even walk all the way down to the beach! There is even a maze for you to discover! Rest your tired feet with a picnic on the grounds, or stop by the coffee shop for afternoon tea. There is food to suit everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. The sanctuary is dog-friendly, so why not bring the pooch along for a day out for the whole family?
