Nymans House and Gardens provide a true insight into daily living of the eccentric Messel family. The house was largely ruined by a fire, but the remaining rooms are open to the public. The ruined house is a romantic backdrop to the gardens, which are by far Nymans’ best feature.

The gardens are sculpted into a variety of rooms on different terraces, separated by hedges or trees. This out of the ordinary structure offers a habitat for the rare, exotic plants that the gardens are famous for. Wander from the ancient Wall Garden through the Knot and Top Gardens. Let the Rose Garden invade your senses with a wide variety of roses to tickle your nose! The Sunk Garden is a recurring favourite, though there are many different garden rooms for you to discover and explore.

Nymans has just opened up the extensive woodlands for you to explore. Follow one of the many woodland walks to enjoy climbing trees, hammocks, and even an open-air theatre! Let out your inner explorer and see if you can find six small boxes that are hidden within Nymans Woods. Leave a small memento in each of the boxes to commemorate your find!

There are always events running at Nymans, from photography workshops to horticultural courses. You can even pick up croquet mallets for a quick game!  Kids will be delighted with the events designed just for younger visitors. If you’re worried about accessibility, Nymans offers golf cart tours for the less mobile so that everyone can enjoy the natural beauty.
