Running from the mid-May through late October, the Jacobite is one of the most spectacular railway journeys in the world! The 84 mile round trip voyage is run by West Coast Railways.

Chug past a plethora of spectacular views in one of the carriages used for the ‘Hogwarts Express’ in the Harry Potter films!

Your journey starts in sight of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. From there it is a journey of Britain’s extremes, as you visit Arisaig, Britain’s most westerly mainland railway station and continue on to Loch Morar and River Morar, the deepest fresh water loch in Britain and the shortest river in Britain respectively.

Finally, you arrive at Europe’s deepest saltwater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis. Take in the stunning sights in the village of Glennfinnan as you cross the 21-arched Glenfinnan viaduct which overlooks the dramatic Loch Shiel and Jacobite monument.

Beyond Glenfinnan are the beautiful villages of Lochailort, Arisaig, Morar and Mallaig, the end of the line. A buzzing fishing port and ferry terminal servicing Skye and the Small Isles, an hour and a half stop over can be enjoyed absorbing the atmosphere of the village and taking advantage of their fresh fish in the plentiful number of fish and chip restaurants.
