Visit the beautiful Ashton-under-Lyne to be transported into a Victorian pastime. Daisy Nook, formerly Waterhouses, is a superb spot for a cucumber sandwich and a cup of tea from a picnic flask.

Based in Failsworth, Greater Manchester, Daisy Nook is a country park located around a disused waterway system. The surrounding area is bursting with wildlife and the location makes for the most ideal picnic location.

The canal waterways are no longer used in this part of Manchester; however, canal life is still vibrant in other areas and Ashton-upon-Lyne holds yearly canal festivals for anyone interested.

The area is a great place for a family day out. You don’t necessarily have to have a picnic and it is just one of the things that can be enjoyed here. There are numerous old carriage drives where horse drawn carts were pulled up to the old houses in daisy nook, those drives are now walkways that cross through beautiful woodlands dotted with benches so you can sit and enjoy the surroundings.

Being an old canal waterway, areas between canal locks have now become fishing hot spots and the 80 foot high aqueduct that once carried the canal over the River Medlock can now be walked on as one of the country parks many footpaths.
