Paul ‘Tuna’ Turner

Located in the Madeley area of Telford, Blists Hill Victorian Town is operated by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust as an open air museum. This town museum has so much to offer and promises to be a brilliant day out for all the family.

Experience an authentic Victorian era street by walking along the relatively new Canal Street; comprising a Post Office, Sweet Shop, Fried Fish Dealer and many more. Why not treat yourself to a traditionally British lunch of fish and chips wrapped in paper?

Burn off your lunchtime indulgence with a visit to the Victorian Fairground; adults don’t be afraid to embrace your inner child and have some fun! From here you can step back in time completely and enjoy a horse and cart ride or have a look around Squatters Cottage.

See what working life was like by experiencing the heat of the Foundry and Ironworks or feed the pigs. If by then you’re a little peckish, there is always the chance to eat some traditional freshly baked bread from the Victorian bakery.

The town consists of a mixture of buildings, some replicas of their Victorian counterparts and others original occupants of the industrial site, giving the town fantastic authenticity. On top of that, each building is manned by at least one costumed demonstrator, trained in the skills of the profession that they are re-enacting.

So grab a coat and head over to Blists Hill to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of Victorian England.
