If you’re wild about wildlife, Colchester Zoo has a treat in store for you. There is so much to see and do there that you’ll never want to leave!

You can lunge through the lemur enclosure and get up close to these ring-tailed and red-ruffed creatures. When you visit the lemurs in Lost Madagascar, you will be boarding the ‘Lost Madagascar Express’ train with your guide, who will transport you through continents and take you on a magical trip in the land of lemurs.

If lemurs are a bit too small and excitable for you then the resident Giant Tortoises will be right up your street. The enclosure, opened in Summer 2012, is home to three of the world’s four largest species. While these marvellous creatures seem to do their best in expending as little energy as possible, it seems only appropriate that their home is energy efficient too with its green roof.

Now to move onto something even more impressive – the Elephants. Part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme, they are very well looked after in the Edge of Africa Elephant Kingdom. Tembo, the largest elephant, was actually rescued from Chipperfields Circus in 1998.

Once you’ve taken in these wonderful sights you may be feeling a little peckish. There are a variety of eateries to choose from so whether you want chicken, hot dogs, healthy wraps or ice cream (to name a few), there will be something to satisfy your hunger. After your lunch, why not go and watch your favourite animals being fed themselves?

With so many residents at Colchester Zoo, like tigers, lions, penguins, reptiles and amphibians, there is bound to be a fun and informative day in store for you whatever you’re preferences are.
