About Twickenham Stadium Tours

Twickenham Stadium Tours are available for most of the year at Twickenham Stadium, off Rugby Road (except Mondays – as detailed at its website). Twickenham Stadium Tours take around 75 minutes and top off a premier family day out at one of the world’s great sporting stadiums. Ticket holders can trace the steps of rugby legends – and those of music, from Iron Maiden to U2, The Rolling Stones, The Police, The Eagles and Genesis – by visiting the players' tunnel and England team dressing room, as well as observing the sacred turf of the 82,000-seat Home Of Rugby.

Twickenham Stadium Tours ticket holders take in The Museum of Rugby’s Permanent Galleries , entered through an original 1907 turnstile. Unveiled in 1996, the Museum contains 6000 artefacts relating to the oval game, along with re-creations of the stadium’s backrooms. Interactive exhibits about the history of rugger include those on founding fathers such as William Webb Ellis and Richard Lindon, making for an illuminating as well as fun family day out. Just the ticket.

The evolution of the arena is explained, with alterations in 1921, 1927 and 1932. Displays indicate how the South Terrace was placed out of bounds in 1965 because of structural faults, while new stands were opened in 1981 and 1990. The capacity increased to 75,000 in 1995 and 82,000 in 2004. By then, the site also boasted a hotel and conference centre, all detailed on a riveting family day out.

Ticket holders on a Twickenham Stadium Tours also get an audio-visual introduction, with a 15-minute film shown in the on-site cinema. Standout features at the family attraction include many players’ jerseys and rugby caps from several nations, the original Rugby School Law Book laying down the rules in the Victorian era, and a plethora of trophies and prizes, including a Melrose Winners Medal from the first seven-a-side championship of 1883. In addition, there are 19th century sketches, cartoons and films dating back to 1901, plus a ¾ scale replica of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup trophy.

The World Rugby Room is another top draw on the Twickenham Stadium Tours, looking at the game’s development everywhere from Abu Dhabi to Zimbabwe, and including The Calcutta Cup, presented to the winners of the annual England v. Scotland game, not to mention an 1871 white English cotton jersey from first international encounter - the oldest international rugby top in the world. The Museum has a programme of rolling exhibitions on topical themes, while rugby artists’ work is on display too.

The Twickers Library is the world’s biggest public access resource on rugby and is accessible to  Twickenham Stadium Tours ticket holders. It contains a wealth of Match Programmes, Books, Letters, Periodicals, Newspaper Cuttings, Scrapbooks and Annuals.

The Museum of Rugby and Twickenham Stadium Tours have disabled access and a pre-bookable wheelchair, meaning a family day out can be enjoyed by everybody. With free parking, bars and eateries, it’s a family attraction you won’t want to kick into touch!
