Theatre Tours

Throughout the year, a fascinating guided tour of the Globe Theatre is included in your visit to Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition. Let one of our guides bring this extraordinary space to life.

Tours begin every 15-30 minutes during opening hours. There is no need for individuals to book. Reduced rates are available for groups of 15 or more. Groups should book in advance.

During matinee performances in the theatre, when guided tours of the Globe are not possible, visitors will be taken to the nearby site of Bankside's first theatre: the Rose. The space for which Christopher Marlowe and Ben Jonson wrote their greatest plays and in which Shakespeare learned his trade, the Rose is the only Elizabethan playhouse that has been excavated on a large scale by archaeologists.

A short film introducing the colourful history of the Rose, the Bankside area and the ongoing discoveries made at the site is also on show at Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition.

News

The 2008 season runs April to October and includes King Lear, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Timon of Athens, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Shakespeares Globe premieres Ché Walker’s The Frontline and Glyn Maxwell’s Liberty too. Furthermore, ongoing series in spring included a backstage tour, with storytellers hidden behind the Stage performing Tales for Spring in the Tiring House, as well as a Tent for Peace and artists in the exhibition space. The festivities also offered visitors the opportunity to meet Shakespeares Globe actors and see abridged versions of Shakespeare plays, while the Globe Musicians played Elizabethan music on unusual instruments. Other dazzling aspects of the tour included live costume dressings and stage combat. Details are at the Shakespeares Globe website.
