A new Sealife Centre is opening at Chessington World Of Adventures & Zoo in March 2008, with over 20 marine-life displays containing species ranging from shrimps and starfish to sharks and stingrays. The 250,000 litre aquarium, located within Chessington Zoo in time for the Easter school holidays, allows kids of all ages to go nose to nose with a wide range of sea creatures, while interactive ‘touchpools', exhibitions and a walkthrough ocean tank offer a wow factor to this perfect family day, out as fish swim overhead. Not something you get with a ticket to most zoos!
Sealife Weymouth’s pioneering captive breeding programme for seahorses is set to expand with a new 3-D adventure trail that will test visitors’ new-found knowledge, meaning that Sealife Weymouth remains a leader for the educational and fun family day out.
New for 2009 – Crocodile creek!
From May 2009 Weymouth SEA LIFE Park launches its new feature - Crocodile Creek! “Embark on a safari style log flume adventure and come face to face with crocodiles!”
If that’s not enough, in Easter 2009, The Turtle Sanctuary welcomes 100 new baby turtle residents. Each are about the size of a 50-pence-piece and were destined for the UK pet trade, but were confiscated by Customs officers when it was discovered they were not accompanied by the correct paperwork. Weymouth’s Turtle sanctuary is part of international efforts to generate captive bred stock for future re-introduction programmes.
In 2008 we saw Weymouth SEA LIFE open its doors to Adventure Island; a fantasy land with four amazing children’s rides – a drop ride, tugboat, pirate ship and seal themed roundabout. A great place for any young explorer!
