About Sealife Blackpool
Sealife Blackpool is an amazing feat of architecture with its white-wash exterior, angular polished glass and steel on Blackpool’s Golden Mile Promenade. It’s one of the biggest maritime life facilities in the country, providing a stunning family day out that the weather cannot dampen, besides being a cutting edge marine conservation institute. A ticket to Sealife Blackpool grants holders access to more than 50 subsurface displays, including The Lost City Of Atlantis, with its mock ruins and gatekeeper octopus. Other key features of the family attraction are a glass walkway surrounded by sharks, a Touch Pool that provides demonstrations through the day, and an Amazonian rainforest housed in the AmaZone, with a band of flesh-eating piranhas. It includes flowing freshwater streams, mist and no fewer than 80 freshwater species, among them deadly poison dart frogs.
The Phantoms Of The Deep hosts jellyfish from all across the planet, not least lagoon and compass jellyfish, upside-down jellyfish and edible jellyfish. Among the other oceanic and freshwater animals resident at Sealife Blackpool are sharks, stingrays, seahorses, and Gary the Grouper, tipping the scales at no less than 20 stone!
The Sealife Blackpool café has fine sea views, as well as a soft play area, slide and ball pit, and feeding demonstrations take place at regular intervals, enhancing an informative and fun family day out. Guided tours around the Centre can be pre-booked, further ensuring a special family day out.
Another top draw at Sealife Blackpool is the submerged galleon in The Legend Of Blackbeard pirates exhibition, boasting a luxuriant Caribbean Reef, sharks and swarms of fish that ply the wreck. Tales of marine adventures are related by one of Blackbeard's shipmates and, landlubbers take note, there’s a three-section 180 degree tunnel to observe Sealife Blackpool’s many sharks. Additionally, there are some 10 smaller tanks housing seahorses, others with numerous types of sea snake, and a host of rock pool residents such as crabs and starfish.
The Shoreline tank houses domestic albino sharks and live shark egg cases, back-lit in order to see the baby sharks developing inside them – a literal family attraction that you won’t see on just any family day out. The Quayside tank features dogfish and a walkway around it affords observation from wheelchairs, as do all of Sealife Blackpool’s displays. The Victorian pier features Manta Rays and Sting Rays, while Black tip sharks and Nurse sharks can also be spotted. Just the ticket for those seeking Jaws in the flesh!
A ticket to the family attraction grants access to Sealife Blackpool’s Gift Shop and Education centre, ensuring an informative and enjoyable family day out. Open every day, except for Christmas Day, and with seven zones to get round, there’s tons of fun making for a cracking family day out.
