Sealife Scarborough is located in Scalby Mills, part of the stunning North Yorkshire coast, and it is one of the top marine centres in the UK. Scarborough Sealife and Marine Sanctuary experienced wholesale refurbishment in recent years and is now a state of the art family attraction, providing a multifaceted, illuminating and really enjoyable family day out. A Sealife Scarborough ticket gives the holder entry to an incredible subsurface kingdom, from the jaw-dropping Great Barrier Reef exhibit that teems with brightly coloured fish and majestic cow nose stingrays to the elegant basking sharks that are in constant motion amid the coral. Also one to spot is the cave-residing Lionfish, along with Moray Eels and the Clownfish.

The unusual pyramidal structure that is the home to Sealife Scarborough has fine views over the impressive North Bay, and domestic marine animals are to be found inside its tanks, among them orphaned, ill and traumatised grey seal puppies from the local vicinity. In addition, an otter sanctuary for Asian short-clawed otters provides them refuge and rehabilitation, while the sea turtles’ Convalescence Pool and Turtle Reef Walk-through in the coral reef area provide ticket holders with the chance to see rescued Loggerhead turtles. They share their space with black tip and leapord sharks, as well as hordes of tropical fish. An equally exotic sight on a family day out at Sealife Scarborough are the strange cephalopods found in The Lair of the Octopus exhibit, not to mention Giant Japanese Spider Crabs in Claws, whose claws measure up to an amazing three metres across.

Another top draw at the all-year round, any-weather family attraction are the swarms of Jellyfish that illuminate white clothing with their internal irridescence, Humboldt penguins that waddle about the Penguin Sanctuary, and the dramatic Ocean Tank, which has a fabulous walkthrough underwater tunnel, re-creating the wreck of the brigantine Black-eyed Susan, which sank off Scarborough in a storm in 1880. Additionally, there’s The Kingdom of the Seahorse and Sealife Scarborough’s cutting edge breeding scheme for the rare species, while the Jurassic Seas exhibit of prehistoric seas and their residents is thrilling, highlights including some of the sea world’s own living dinosaurs, which have remained unchanged for aeons.

A ticket to Sealife Scarborough also allows access to the Captain Pugwash Quiz Trail, a Soft play area, café, refreshments kiosk, and the Education facility, and disabled access and nearby car parking mean Sealife Scarborough is a top family attraction that everyone can enjoy on a fun family day out.

With over 30 displays, a programme of regular feeding sessions, talks by the staff and a touch pool for hands-on encounters with marine fauna, Sealife Scarborough is just the ticket for a grand family day out.
