In the walled garden of Lowther Castle, look out to the surrounding parkland where 150 native and foreign species of birds of prey call home. You can seefalcons, hawks, eagles, buzzards and owls in the idyllic Lake District.

The peaceful surroundings are the perfect setting to watch the displays of these powerful birds. Stay for daily flying demonstrations and birds being flown in the sport of falconry. Visitors can join in and have the bird return to their hand!

The aviaries, which are suited to each bird’s individual needs, can be viewed in the walled garden. Feel the thrill of having a Peregrine Falcon swoop past you at ankle level, or see the birds demonstrate their hunting techniques. Learn all about the history of falconry, current practise of the sport and about the importance of conservation of the historic sport.
