Covering 100 acres, Ryton Pools Country Park is home to a wide range of birds and wildlife for you to greet on your weekend out. Stroll along one of the five pools, which cover nearly ten acres! The surfaced paths make it easily accessible for everyone.

Feed the ducks or have a picnic along the shores. Stop by the picnic meadow for games and fun. You can stop by the Visitor Centre for snacks and tea and to see what events Ryton Pools is putting on today!

With an orienteering course, biking paths, and two playgrounds, there is something to keep everyone busy at Ryton Pools! Kids will enjoy building dens in the Children’s Wood; there’s even a miniature railway that runs on Sundays April through September!

Make sure to stop by Jo’s Sensory and Wildlife Garden to immerse yourself in nature. Sniff the scented herbs, listen to the bamboo rustle in the wind, feel the “leaf seats” beneath you, and admire the dragonfly sculpture. Take the sensory trail to engage your senses; it features a bubbling stream, a leafy willow tunnel, and musical surprises! Don’t forget to gaze up at the sky and see the variety of birds swooping and diving above your head!

There is adjoining access to the ancient forest of Ryton Wood. With plenty of wildlife, this quiet retreat is perfect for a long, leisurely walk in the afternoon. See if you can spot the majestic munjac deer that live in the forest. If you can make it during spring, it is particularly lovely with bluebells flourishing underneath your feet.
