Starting out life as a gravel pit, Needham Lake is now a beautiful countryside retreat for locals and tourists each year. Home to a huge range of wildlife, there is plenty for the nature-lovers among you to get excited about.

The surfaced path that circles the Lake provides an easily accessible way for you to immerse yourself in the stunning surroundings. One lap of the Lake is about a 20 minute walk. Why not take some bread and feed the ducks on the way?

There are ample picnic tables for you to stop at and enjoy a snack. Open grass areas are perfect for ball games and the kids to run around in. If they still need to let off some steam, the play equipment near the car-park is guaranteed to wear them out and give them some adventure.

If you want to explore the Nature Reserve with a guide and get some exercise as well, there is an orienteering course available that is specially tailored towards families and groups. This is a fantastic way to learn some new skills whilst enjoying the wonderful scenery.

While you’re there, keep an eye out for the nest boxes dotted around. In the summer you can also see dragonflies and wild flowers, including orchids. With thousands of visitors each year, Needham Lake and Nature Reserve is a proven popular attraction and once you get there you’ll see why. It is a fantastic place to visit whatever the time of year.
