Less than 3 miles from Peterborough’s bustling city centre, Ferry Meadows is a haven of tranquillity with a surprising array of wildlife and diversity of plants, trees and flowers.

Over 500 acres in size, this impressive area of countryside has been accredited with the Green Flag Award and is unsurprisingly popular with visitors. It is ideal if you want to casually explore its stunning scenery on foot as its many footpaths make it easily accessible for people of all abilities.

However, if you want to be a little more active, you can also cycle, do a bit of horse-riding or go for a jog. Whatever you fancy doing, Ferry Meadows will be able to cater for you.

All of this is bound to work up an appetite so why not visit one of the park’s two cafes? Renowned for their friendly family atmosphere, they make delightful settings in which to relax and fill up with a tasty meal. One of the cafes also has a licensed bar for those of you who want to sit and chill-out with a drink.

The Lakeside Watersports Centre is the ideal place to go if you’re feeling adventurous. There are plenty of activities available there from windsurfing and canoeing to small boat sailing and cycle hire. The great thing about this centre is that you can opt to just hire the equipment or have a fully instructed session.

The three play areas around the park are specially designed for the kids to get their legs moving and to wear down the energy levels a little bit! And if they wear themselves out a little too much, the miniature railway rides are the perfect way to explore the rest of the park.

There are plenty of events going on at Ferry Meadows so keep an eye out on their website for any up and coming ones. Or you can visit the Visitor Centre and collect all the information you need.
