New pieces by Dali and other artists are added regularly to Dali Universe, and the latest acquisitions can be viewed by appointment with the Fine Art Manager, including limited run items from his illustrative series on Faust - detailed at the Dali Universe website.
As part of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations of the death of Salvador Dali, Dali Universe, the major South Bank exhibition dedicated to The Master of Surrealism, is proud to present a unique educational exhibition in April 2009:
The Magic of Art
The Magic of Art is an exciting interactive children’s exhibition that encourages learning through exploration, interaction and creativity.
- The educative method of learning through play means that learning feels more like playing to children. The fun they have at Dali Universe will inspire further learning about the arts.
- The interactive equipment behind the Magic of Art exhibition has been developed by Science Projects - suppliers to the London Science Museum. Their collaboration at Dali Universe led to the development of an exhibition that demystifies the art process for kids and inspires them to create.
The Magic of Art is available for pre-booked school parties and groups who will have a 2-hour session under the supervision of a dedicated ‘exhibition mentor’. Casual visitors, holding a ticket for the permanent Dali Universe exhibition, may also participate in the Magic of Art.
Exhibition Highlights:
An ‘Art Machine’ is the focal point of the main exhibition room. The only one of its kind on public display in the UK. The art machine sprays virtual paint onto a digital canvas. Children are able to create their own masterpieces, inspired by Salvador Dali. Their ‘Art Machine’ creations may then be saved, electronically mailed and even transformed into all sorts of media. Children who participate in the Magic of Art will be able to take away whatever they create and even see their masterpieces reproduced in the form of a t-shirt or jigsaw.
- 16 Educational Easels each with their own activity teach kids the secrets of colour, composition, and perspective. Art History forms a large part of the teaching. Children are introduced to some of history’s most famous paintings and are taught about the story of their creation and the techniques that were used to make them.
- A large creative area with it’s own ‘Graffiti Wall’ where kids can paint, draw and generally have fun. The emphasis is on creation and children are encouraged to get their hands dirty! Children discover and then play with the full array of colours, art styles and art instruments.
- A projector will also being showing films and documentaries about the lives and works of the great artists.
- As part of the exhibition we will be holding a series of master classes with author illustrators of some of the best-loved children’s books. There will be illustrator workshops, for children and adults alike with illustrators revealing the secrets and skills of creating characters in art.
