About the Butterfly and Wildlife Park

Butterfly & Wildlife Park is located in Long Sutton, near Spalding, Lincolnshire, and is both a top conservation institute and a fun family day out all the year round. Indeed, the Butterfly & Wildlife Park was voted the county’s leading family attraction of 2003.

The 15-acre Butterfly & Wildlife Park offers ticket holders the chance to experience another world in one of the country’s biggest and best Tropical Houses. It houses hundreds of butterflies and birds of all shapes, sizes and colours, which are on the wing above the exotic plants on show. Sugar Birds and others use feeding stations placed beside the pathway, adorned with fauna such as Clivia miniata, Lantana camara, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Heliotropium Indicum, Strellizia reginae, Brugmansia and Bougainvillea wall-climbers. There are numerous species of reptile and insect, including Leaf-cutting Ants in their dedicated Ant Room. The Creepy Crawlie House includes such impressive beasties as the red-kneed tarantula and scorpions.

Indeed, the family attraction has a host of less furry friends to meet, including the Caiman, toads, frogs, rat and corn snakes, iguanas, lizards, water dragons, geckos, terrapins, millipedes, stick insects and snails – just the ticket if you want your hairs to stand on end!

A ticket to Butterfly & Wildlife Park also grants visitors the chance to meet their fellow warm-blooded species, from Raccoons and Pygmy Goats to Pot Bellied Pigs, llama, miniature pony, possums, sheep, rabbits and guinea pigs. For those of an avian bent, there are Birds of Prey Flying Displays staged each day at noon and 3pm, with nine types of owl, two  falcon, and buzzards, vultures plus the American Liberty eagle. The family attraction additionally has a variety of overseas animals including the mighty Asian water buffalo, Bavarian mini pigs and birds like the rhea.

The Butterfly & Wildlife Park Gardens are also accessible with a ticket and are a major ingredient in a family day out to Long Sutton. Among the most stunning types of plant on display are Solidago (goldenrod), Kniphofia, (red hot pokers), Buddleias, digitalis (foxgloves), Yarrow, Geraniums (cornsbill) and Lupins, which are sources of nectar for bees and other insects, as well as many birds. The herb garden boasts Borage Rosemary, sage, Bergamot (bee balm) and lavender, and the Wild Copse is populated by a variety of trees and other common vegetation. The old fruit orchard is used for cropping and has a pathway to explore, while the Tea Gardens serve refreshments in a restive natural habitat.

Younger ticket holders can enjoy the Butterfly & Wildlife Park adventure playground and crazy golf course, while the car parks have picnic areas, and there’s a licensed tea room and gift shop. The Adventure Play Area features a 40-metre aerial zip wire, tower slide, adventure trail, climbing net, climbing wall, swing steps, the toddlers’ Giggleswick climbing frame and sandpit, and a driving circuit with cars, tractors and lorry.

Wheelchairs are available, affording a fun family day out for everyone, and five special tours can be booked, as detailed at the Butterfly & Wildlife Park Gardens website.
